They learn all this from their political Gurus
“Promises are meant to be broken” It’s not just true with politics or business but applicable everywhere in today’s scenario.
Have they paid that much to other operators, than it is justified..
Promises along with offers were also the part of disrupting the Telecom market , wasn’t it so?
Reliance can use any tactics to win the game of business .
In politics and business Never say “Never”
If you do, then keep your promises, public/customer will never forgive you otherwise.
They are not charging for Jio2Jio. Promises are not broken. Businessman says what others don’t listen to, everyone listens to what they like.
It is the era of “I Agree, Next, Next, Ok!” No one bothers to what they agreed with, hurrying to next and then crib about broken terms.
They tried to change the concept, make Voice call free. If Industry and Regulator is not approving that what they will do..
This is kalyug , where people make promises out of compulsion , and, then make u turn .
Adeekaal mein :
“Pran jaye par wachan na jaye”
Kalyug mein :
“Pran na jaye par wachan jaye”
Meaning of Free :
“A defferred payment , which is paid in future in cash or in kind (Kind = Data).”
It is a broken promise! I think the PR reason would be “Business must be be sustainable/efficient”. We consumers do not store such things for a longer duration.
I read in one of the comments that calls to jio is free, this is like forcing every customer to port in to Jio.
After disrupting telecom sector and various stakeholders associated with it, now this price increase and top up recharges for IUC reminds of “Promises are made to be broken” saying.
There must be a thought through forecasting done 5 years ago for the IUC charges on account of calls being terminated on rivals network ( especially in a friendly scenario when IUC was brought down from 14 to 6p) …now suddenly 13k crores of IUC payment done chapter has cropped up, was not it factorterd in over a 5 years window projection.
So many companies had to shut down their businesses..telenor, Aircel…….due to the wave of predatory pricing. It was only intended to remove regional players and bring stress in financial books of incumbents.
The flip side of introducing unlimited free has made many tuned to internet and long calls just to utilize unlimited benefits without realising the raditions and it’s effect.
Network got choked, call drops increased, data speed slowed down …people who are high paying postpaid customers gets dedicated network ? the answer is no.
Dr Aniruddha Malpani Iff honour is not valuable.
Good old….
Bait and switch !
No need to go to any B school
Classic bait and switch!!!
Yes, exactly!!
Whatever maybe the words, all these factors/promises have helped Jio gain customer share of 30% within 3 years. Let’s wait and watch the effects of tariff increases !!!
There will not be much effect as Incumbents are also all set to increase tariffs after bleeding profusely. The strategy worked perfectly fine for jio, eaten regional players and made incumbents bleed. Now with 30% market shares, it will be a game of customer retention which I believe they will do by bundling broadband and other benefits backed with high tech backend.
It was their choice to pay to rivals so I don’t think it is justified. 13k crores of IUC payout in last 4 to 5 years must have been booked in the projection plan.
At one stage, they offered free by not charging customers and paid IUC charges to rivals and now they say, they are over burden with this massive payout and customer has to pay for IUC charges…this all process sounds ridiculous, it was well planned to bring in disruption and gain market share with Deal seekers user base.
Is that true business?
Point to ponder…my take is that it increases trust deficit.
There is no such thing as a free lunch. So if a business promises freebie in return for a small fee, best to look the other way, especially when it’s the Ambani family.
Ha ha good observation.
We should not forget the fact that from the third year of their operations they also started getting IUC revenue from rival network because by that time they had managed to build massive customer base.
We should also remember that IUC charges were brought down from 14p to 6p when they launched operations else IUC payout would have been closed to 30k crores from 13.5k crores.
With high mobile connection penetration, deal and free seekers bought jio as a second connection for calling free.
No one talks about the IUC revenue they generate now after building such a massive customer base. After destroying regional players and making incumbents bleed profusely, they now talk about IUC payout. IT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AS ACQUISITION COST FOR ACQUIRING CUSTOMERS in the most complex market where customer shows least loyalty.
We are moving towards an era to avail deals, free deals. We should be focussed on value generating products and should be spending some time for society.
These Unlimited offers have adversely affected our daily routine …people have been using unlimited plans like buffet food. Why no one is talking about the hazardous radiations using mobile phones beyond some threshold.
Proudly recall Sir #RatanTata’s golden words, “a promise is a promise” during the launch of Nano!
Ambanis can afford to forget Promises at everybody convenience !!
Short term mammaries egjactly
True !!!
Probably needed money for another one of the biggest mansions in the world right next to the slums..;)
Everyone forget the promises made. Politician, Businesses, Boss..
Danish A.should be impacted. There was no innovation in incumbent network as per offering and feature both. Jio made superb initiative to provide best quality service with affordability. For other telco’s market Indian consumer should not be left behind Globally.
Sir, I think you forgot to add Politicians and Investors on the list.
Debangshu Bhattacharya what was best quality service and superb initiative. I have already written that the backend is very strong but please understand the flip side of offering free resulting in hours and hours of people on calls.
Incumbents actually reacted very late and took 2 years to match, by that time..Jio improved it’s network. Initial two years of launch, jio network was very weak.
I agree with you that Jio brought affordability starting from free and later charged for UL, people had the high tariffs being charged always by incumbents which actually they did.
It is incumbents who is to be blamed for reacting so late and giving the head room to jio to expand aggressively.
A promise is a promise. Tata Nano, billed as the people’s car, was unveiled at the 2008 Delhi Auto Show with an initial price of close to Rs 1 lakh for the basic model despite cost escalations. Ratan Tata insisted that “a promise is a promise”.Jul 9, 2018
Businessman vs Industrialist.
Not a fair call … Businessmen are always bound by Shareholders, Regulators and Clients … They have the tough task of balancing the 3 who ensure they get paid … The poor man still charges ₹1 Salary
I would rather reword it: Businessmen quickly forget the promises they make!
Doesn’t failing of such promises happen mostly everywhere?
#Jio broke his promise because of government’s policy updations. And I think it was essential to update their too to maintain affordable cashflow.
Lankesh Dhandale that’s why their credibility is so poor
Romil Kapoor so you are saying it’s fine for them to break their promises because of business compulsions? And that their word had no meaning because they can go back on it? Is this what we want to teach our children?
Asif Iqbal what about husbands ?
Do we have to say something when IUC charges were slashed from 14p to 6p during Jio launch. It was a super friendly updation for jio as Jio had zilch customer base & it was all OG calls terminating to rivals network. I am not able to recall any recent policy updations by government due to which Jio has failed to keep the promises intact.
Rather it is the AGR penalty on incumbents which has put more stress on them.
It is important to set up the expectations right from day one, first two years free offering and then they started charging & then IUC top up recharges and now pressure on work force to retain customer base.
We have seen players like Aircel, Telenor and tata doing good with Ebidta postive results in various circles, did they adopted Predatory Pricing strategy …they played on innovation cum discounted pricing, ring fenced customers, brought channel partners on board & ring fenced them too with extra payouts & gradually increased tariffs over 4 years window..so the expectation was clear ..it was not free.
Just that someone has the bandwidth to offer free, can’t make noise on IUC payouts resulting into increased tariffs.
It seems to be well planned strategy amd now there all reasons to be given for price increase.
Danish A. Totally agreed !!!
Promises are made at spur of moment for their gain and rarely as a commitment. This I guess is common for polity and business.
Dr Aniruddha Malpani … Not exactly … But if the regulatory environment is forcing them to charge more and they are transparent enough … They could have easily masked the charge with a price hike and said (unlimited calls).
Free stuff is always destructive! I don’t see a wrong in that!
He is the one who make the market competitive & he is running a business
After that they revise in a few months and increase to 1.6 lakh
Bhargav Jani I don’t agree to your point that companies will start to invest in telecom business after so many Global giants had to shut down on account of various reasons …I don’t see any company to invest in telecom services over 10 years window also.
As customers we have to shell out extra penny for using telecom services with limited no of players and incumbents will too try to cover up the massive losses incurred in last 3 years by charging more.
Bhargav Jani Today the low end customer has to recharge with Rs 48 just to avail Incoming with inbuilt talktime and that too with capped validity …means you use your talktime in 28 days or it will be forfeited.
Customers who were falling in below poverty line used to manage their calls with max to max Rs 10 top up as they were not supposed to pay for Incoming ..we need to think for these set of customers also …straightaway jump from Rs 10 to Rs 48 or Rs 20 to Rs 48 else no incoming services.
